The art is a vital part of the hotel, as well as the architecture and design. All over the hotel, a number of Scandinavian photo artists are represented with pieces in black and white, chosen in cooperation with Swedish art expert Sune Nordgren.
During a limited period, we also display selected items from Swedish glass artist Åsa Jungnelius collection.
Åsa Jungnelius - Kosta Boda
Åsa Jungnelius, born in Stockholm, represents Kosta Boda since 2007. She is captured by the creation of an object's value as well as its storytelling abilities and ability to comment on the world around us.
She constantly challenges the establishment by questioning the structural norms of the society which results in edgy comments. Åsa's art has a broad range, from estethical hierarchies, fashion, shopping, decadence and the society's construction of masculinity and femininity. These references are clearly visible in her debut series "Jackie" and "Make Up" for Kosta Boda.
"Jackie" is represented in two colours in the lobby at Clarion Hotel Sign and "Make Up" is found at Selma CitySpa+.
- My first aim is to create glass that tells a story. Then I use aestethics as a way of depicting the objective world in my own subjective manner. Often, I use stereotypical artefacts as a model or reference in order to highlight or destroy the myth and its significance. As for glass itself, I love its glitter and shiny, hard surfaces, especially as a contrast to other materials, says Åsa.
